As a holistic health coach, I find it important to follow a consistent morning routine. Creating healthy habits first thing in the morning sets positive intentions for the day and can improve overall wellness and quality of life. There are many ways to do this, and everyone’s morning routine will look different, but consistency is key. I’m here to share what I do each morning to prepare my mind, body and spirit for the day ahead.
I wake up everyday at 6:30 am, brush my teeth, and almost immediately drink a large glass of lemon water. This isn't a revolutionary concept but it’s important. Your body is beyond dehydrated after a full night’s sleep so water is always the first thing I consume.
*Lemon is added to improve digestion and hydration.
Next, I sit down and meditate for 10-15 minutes. I started consistently meditating last year (I know late to the party) and have noticed improved focus and reduced stress levels throughout the day. I use an app called Smiling Minds; they have a great selection of guided meditations.
I then take a few minutes to review my affirmations, goals, and visualize the future I want for myself. I know this sounds hoo-ha but focusing on these every day makes it more likely to happen – in my personal opinion.
After that I read for ten minutes and write for about five. A friend got me the Ten Minute Journal a few years ago as a gift and I’ve been using one ever since. The prompts create a daily gratitude practice that I enjoy incorporating into my day.
I then *unless it's pouring rain* head outside for some form of movement. I typically jog or walk depending on how my body is feeling that day. Getting direct sunlight first thing in the morning has a huge effect on my mood for the day and my ability to fall asleep at night. All about the circadian rhythm baby.
After that I jump in the shower, eat breakfast, make coffee, and get to work!
