Wow Thailand truly is the wellness mecca. I recently traveled to Thailand and was pleasantly surprised by their attention to health and wellness. I spent time in Bangkok and Phuket and although both locations focused on different aspects of wellness, you can tell there is an importance placed on disease prevention and getting to the root cause of health issues. Here are a few highlights I observed in each location:
Bangkok: Disease prevention & Longevity
Our hotel in Bangkok offered health services through a wellness clinic called BDMS. They have locations all over the city and create tailored wellness programs based on comprehensive blood tests, indicators of micronutrient and antioxidant absorption, hormone imbalance, food intolerance, and genetic testing performed at their facilities. They also have cell aging technology created to measure the rate at which the body is aging. The goal is to achieve longevity and optimize personal health.
Even though Bangkok is a big city, I noticed plenty of greenery on every street corner. For example, our hotel and many others featured plant walls and indoor plants and fresh flowers spread throughout the space. It was refreshing seeing so much greenery in such an urban area.
There was no shortage of fresh fruit in Bangkok. Almost every street corner had a stand selling whole, fresh fruit grown in the surrounding area. Our hotel offered fruit smoothies and freshly squeezed juice for breakfast every morning. As long as they are consumed along with proteins, carbs and fats, I am all for loading up on fresh fruit in the morning.
Phuket: A slower pace
Phuket is an island in the south of Thailand. A much slower pace than the bustling city. Each morning I’d wake up and take a stroll on the beach, the warm, salty air and morning sun boosted my mood and lowered my stress levels for the rest of the day.
They take freshness to a whole new level on this island. Our hotel had a juice bar where you could request any fruit or vegetable they had squeezed into a juice right in front of you. They also had a large assortment of pre squeezed juices like orange, guava and coconut. I could not get enough of this.
The variety of fresh cut fruit they had was almost overwhelming. Everything from watermelon, mango and papaya to fruits I have never heard of before like rose apple and longan. The fruit is picked and prepared right away for optimal freshness. no preservatives or pesticides here!
The made to order omelet station was a highlight. There was just about any protein, vegetable, herb and cheese you could imagine available to be added into an omelet prepared right in front of you. They used fresh, cage free eggs - sans antibiotics. hormones, etc.
